Some background...

I wrote this song in May 2019 after the STEM School Highlands Ranch mass shooting in Colorado. My son was eleven at the time, and with each mass shooting I grow more and more frightened of the country in which he is growing up. Many days I'm scared to let him go to school, but I also don't want to restrict him from having a normal childhood in this great country. I have to imagine millions of others feel the same. "I'm afraid to let you go/I'm afraid to make you stay..."

Like the March For Our Lives Foundation, I think Sandy Hook Promise is doing excellent work in advocating for sensible gun violence prevention. I'm proud to say that I've began volunteering as a Sandy Hook Promise Leader. 100% of the proceeds from downloading this acoustic version of "The Next Child" will go their foundation.
