By Joanna Ramirez. Donations go to The SAFE Alliance.
The idea for this song originated after listening to a morning radio show interview with an accomplished woman who was recounting her journey to success and spoke about getting out of an abusive relationship, that she described as “sixteen years of fear”. The song recounts the experience of a different woman, who I actually knew many years ago through work, who was ruled by her fear after leaving her abusive husband.
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month and I’m proud to kick off this campaign to benefit The Safe Alliance in Austin, Texas. From their website: "The SAFE Alliance exists to stop abuse for everyone by serving the survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and exploitation, and domestic violence. We are dedicated to ending violence through prevention, advocacy, and comprehensive services for individuals, families, and communities that have been affected by abuse."
Though I only recently released “Sixteen Years” on my album “On My Way”, it was written over 20 years ago and I always hoped that it could be used to make a difference. I hope you’ll donate to download the song, 100% of the proceeds will go to The Safe Alliance. Thank you.
