When Ian Clarke composed ‘maya,’ he intended for the title to mean illusion. The piece itself reflects the imagery of an illusion, as the melody’s hypnotic repetition and haunting pitch bends quickly transport the listener into a mirage of lush imagination. We found this piece to be truly inspiring and beautifully arranged. ‘Maya’ is written for two flutes and a piano. A lone flute starts with the piano, with a simple, repetitive rhythm. As the piece progresses, the melody gradually builds until both flutes are playing in soaring harmony.
We sought to find an organization within our community that brought to us the same feeling of inspiration. When we came upon the Children’s Medical Center, we were instantly inclined to help. The Children’s Medical Center Foundation is the fundraising branch for Children’s Health hospitals. As the leading nonprofit pediatric system in North Texas, the funding allows the Children’s Health hospitals to provide unmatched care to their patients, as well as fund research for the discovery of cures and the advancement of medicine.
All the funds from this project will be donated to Innovators for Children’s.
