"Creature" is from the child's perspective coming to a strange land for freedom only to be locked up in a cage and separated from family. The song was written in 2018, but at the time I was not sure if I could help. Fast-forward to this year, with the way the White House and our US government handles immigration and undocumented workers, it just breaks anyone down who has a heart. Nothing that is happening at our US borders is right or just. You just don't treat people the way we continue to treat people of color. Our systemic racism in our country and our xenophobia has to be abolished, but the harder thing to do is to have the uncomfortable conversation about what's going on.

I'm choosing Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights as a way to give back and help fight for kids who cannot fight for themselves. Their mission is to promote the best interests of unaccompanied immigrant children with due regard to the child's expressed wishes, according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and state and federal law.

The Young Center is a champion for the best interests of children who arrive in the United States on their own, from all corners of the world. We serve as trusted allies for these children by accompanying them through court proceedings, advocating for their best interests, and standing for the creation of a dedicated juvenile immigrant justice system that ensures the safety and well-being of every child.
