The Mighty Oak

  1. The Mighty Oak

Chris and I wrote this song after we read an article, written by a social worker, about a boy in the foster care system. At seven years old, this boy had moved more times than the number of years he had been alive. He only had a trash bag to hold all his belongings.

As new parents, stories like this resonate even more deeply with us. I cannot even begin to understand what that must be like to be a child without a permanent and stable family. This story stayed with us for a week until we finally had to write it in a song.

If you download this song, the proceeds will go to a wonderful organization called, One Simple Wish, which works to provide foster children with things and experiences they may want or need. These are simple things like a trip to Chucky Cheese, a lap top or even a birthday party. They strive to give these children magical experiences that all children deserve.

This song is called "The Mighty Oak" because the Oak Tree symbolizes strength, courage, morale and wisdom. We all have these traits within us, even the youngest of us who may feel weak, lonely and without roots. Sadly, this boy's story did not have a happy ending but I hope it will inspire us to look after those children who are still in the system, going from home to home, in need of some love.
