This project celebrates my son Niall and the beautiful music he composed, improvised and performed between the ages of 16 and 19 years old. Niall was never able to fulfill his potential. He was killed in Afghanistan in June of 2012 while serving as a U.S. Marine. I wanted to do something to celebrate Niall's 30th birthday (June 21) and commemorate seven years of missing him and thought releasing an album of his music would be a meaningful and enduring way to honor him.
I co-founded a music program in Niall's memory at a school in the suburbs of Yangon, Myanmar in 2014. The program is administered by Gitameit Music Center, a non-profit community center and music school in downtown Yangon devoted to music teaching & nurturing, performing, offering exchange possibilities for Burmese students to study abroad, and inviting international artists & teachers for performances and workshops in Yangon. I would like to continue to support the school and also offer piano, guitar and violin scholarships to students at Gitameit. 100% of proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Gitameit Music Center.
The last track on the album was co-written in Niall's memory by his father Paul Sears and Richard Wileman. The song was recorded with Richard's band Karda Estra.
I hope you will consider supporting my project. It will help to keep Niall's music legacy alive and provide a lot of joy to many children. Thank you!
